United in Spirit
United in Spirit by Rory – The Daily Coin
A couple of weeks ago I set out on a grand adventure. There is a gathering that has been happening, in Knoxville, Tn, on the first Tuesday of each month for several years. After doing a little research on what happens, and the people that orchestrate everything, I decided I wanted to experience it for myself.
Upon arrival it was very obvious that I was, once again, an “old guy” among the youngsters. This time, however, it was completely different. These weren’t mid / late 20 somethings or 30 somethings, these were mid / late teenagers and early 20 somethings. People close to my age numbered in the handfuls – possibly a dozen of us. This gives me hope for our future. If these young people, children really, are this inspired we may actually have a chance.
Outside the venue people were lined up for about a block and half to get in. Maybe as many as 500 people standing on line. You can see in the image below people are standing almost to the end of the buildings! It was an amazing sight.
While we waited for the doors to open I spoke with two people that had come to the show together, Blake and Joseph. Joseph was maybe 17 y/o and still in high school, while Blake was maybe mid 20’s. Both lived in nearby Kingston and have attended most, if not all, Gatherings for the past 2-3 years. They explained that normally they would have a bunch of young people (early teens) from their church with them but there was something else that kept the kids away on this evening. Both agreed this was by far the largest “gathering” they had ever seen. I spoke with several other people, once inside, and everyone that I spoke with confirmed this was something special in the history of this event.
The Gathering opened with a prayer and some encouraging words from the group. Will Reagan, the leader of United Pursuit, was very enthusiastic about the evening.
After a three hour drive and two hours of waiting it was finally beginning to happen. The love, beauty and Holy Spirit was flowing through us all. It was an amazing night of worship. The music opened everyone’s heart and the Spirit filled the room and everyone around.
The image below was taken from a balcony where more people could be found. You can see some empty space on the far left and far right of this image. By the time worship began, there was no available space! It wasn’t overcrowded, I wasn’t uncomfortable, but there were a lot more people than this image depicts.
While showing someone an image of an event never comes close to being there, neither does a video of a live song. While, on occasion, a live recording can capture some of the essence, it is never going to capture any of the scents, collective feelings or tastes that all play an important part.
There are no words, there are no images and there is no way to transfer the emotion, the Spirit and beauty that filled everyone of us. It is one of those moments that must be experienced in order to understand. The video below will give you an idea of what happened but, it pales in comparison to the experience.
My hope is United Pursuit will upload this evening of worship to share with the world. While there were a couple of technical challenges the people didn’t seem concerned and were more than happy with sharing the gospel and living in the Spirit with so many other believers. My heart aches to be united in the Spirit during another Gathering in Knoxville.
