New China Scholarship series, by Ramin Mazaheri, Part 1 of 8: Old vs. new scholarship on China Podcast

China is serious business…. Thankfully, today we can finally access authors like Brown, who have compiled superb, comprehensive scholarship to allow today’s readers to grant China the seriousness and honesty it deserves. And the Fairbankses of the Western world are everywhere else…providing copy and rubber-stamping diplomas. Whether or not we choose to apply modern China’s solutions to our native problems is another question, and up to the reader, but willfully ignoring their solutions is so prejudiced that it cannot honestly be called “scholarship”.

am deeply honored that a journalist with the integrity and vision of Mr. Ramin Mazaheri, is inspired to call my latest book, China Is Communist Dammit! Dawn of the Red Dynasty, a shining example of the New China Scholarship, as opposed to all the other mainstream books written about this amazing country, its civilization and people. Ramin is writing an 8-part series, by going through China Is Communist Dammit subject by subject, and comparing it to one of the most famous “China” books ever written, China: A New History, by John K. Fairbanks.

The results are fascinating and informative. Most importantly, the New China Scholarship is hopeful and inspiring for you, me and the whole world. All of us need to truly and honestly understanding China, without all the West’s usual condescending, racially superior, anti-communist layers added on. Only when all that imperial and colonial baggage is removed, can we clearly see China for what it is – and isn’t – and accept that as it did for much of human history, China will be leading humanity into the 21st century. I have written many times that you cannot understand the headlines you read each day, what they are really saying, until you have a firm knowledge of China and its people. I am humbled that Ramin Mazaheri has reached the same conclusion. Hopefully, you will too.

I would like to take this opportunity to say that the New China Scholarship did not start with China Is Communist Dammit! It is Book #3 of The China Trilogy (http://chinarising.puntopress.com/2017/05/19/the-china-trilogy/) and these three volumes really go together in a sequence, starting with 44 Days Backpacking in China- The Middle Kingdom in the 21st Century, with the United States, Europe and the Fate of the World in Its Looking Glass(https://ganxy.com/i/88276/), then China Rising – Capitalist Roads, Socialist Destinations(https://ganxy.com/i/113798/) and finally China Is Communist Dammit – Dawn of the Red Dynasty(https://www.amazon.com/China-Communist-Dammit-Dawn-Dynasty/dp/6027354380/).
