Finally – Mayor Megan Barry Pleads Guilty to Felony Theft Agrees to Resign by Rory – The Daily Coin
Megan Barry should have never been Mayor of Nashville. There were questions surrounding her leadership even before she has handed the reigns of this thriving city. As a native Nashvillian I voted against her, campaigned against her and was shocked when she actually supposedly won the mayoral race.
Megan Barry came to be Mayor with the support of former Governor Phil Bredeson. This, for me, was a sign that Barry had her sights higher than Mayor, she was looking to join the Big Club. She was a democrats democrat in her support of sanctuary city status for Nashville.
In a more recent situation, now former Mayor Barry, made a shady deal with local developers, corporate families and the MLS to bring Major League Soccer to Nashville
In a transaction separate from the stadium lease, a development team led by Nashville’s Turner family, founders of the real estate firm MarketStreet Enterprises, would enter into a long-term ground lease of 10 acres of fairgrounds property for a mixed-use private development.
MarketStreet Enterprises, founded by Steve Turner and led by son Jay Turner, helped with the development of the booming Gulch neighborhood a decade ago. The Turners have minority stake in the Ingram-led MLS ownership group, which also has involvement of the Wilf family, owner of the NFL’s Minnesota Vikings.
Complete details of the mixed-use project are unclear, but Barry has said it will include an affordable housing component. The developers would have the rights to profits from what is built. Source
Why are these people getting the profits from a 10 acre plot in downtown Nashville and why are the details unclear for a property that will be developed by the tax payers? Did something go wrong with this MLS deal? Was there something that happened between the families here in Nashville and Minnesota? We believe something went wrong along the way as Barry has now resigned as Mayor from one of the “it” cities in the U.S.. She has also been publicly shamed by way of one of the favorite crimes of the deep state. Dominique Strass-Khan (DSK) and Michael Jackson always come to mind whenever there is a high-profile sex crime being played out on the national stage. Guilt or innocence never plays a part, it is only about public shaming and ruining someone’s career and public life. It never worked with Michael Jackson but it worked like a charm with DSK.
Megan Barry was also hanging out with the federal level ruling class with her desire to spend upwards of $9 billion for a transit program in middle Tennessee. The support for this program, by Nashvillians, was lukewarm at best. Did this play a part in all this transpiring?
Barry is seeking Metro Council approval in the coming weeks to hold a public referendum on four tax increases — including a hike on the sales tax — in May to create a dedicated funding source to help pay for the system. The plan’s highlights include light rail on five major corridors and a tunnel beneath downtown.
The breakdown on spending for the transit plan, dubbed Let’s Move Nashville, from 2018 to 2032 is projected to be:
- $5.4 billion for light rail on five corridors, the downtown tunnel and other related costs (61.2 percent)
- $1.1 billion for enhancements to the city’s current bus system (12.8 percent)
- $1.2 billion for interest, principal repayment on debt and financing costs (13.2 percent)
- $934 million for operating and maintenance (10.4 percent)
- $211 million for reserves (2.4 percent)
The report also says a number of other factors could increase the cost of the transit plan over time, including inflation. Source
Nashville Mayor Megan Barry pleaded guilty Tuesday to felony theft of property over $10,000 related to her affair with former police bodyguard Sgt. Rob Forrest.
She agreed to reimburse the city $11,000 in restitution, and serve three years probation.
“Thank you judge,” Barry, appearing in a black dress, said after entering the plea. “I appreciate you.”
Taking the unusual step of appearing himself in court, instead of assigning a deputy, District Attorney Glenn Funk said that “had this case gone to trial, witnesses are available who would testify that in March 2016 and January 2018 Megan Barry caused over 10K but less than 60K in Metro Nashville city funds to be expended unlawfully on Mr. Robert Forrest.”
And now she pleads guilty and as part of the “deal” made with the District Attorney’s office Mayor Barry is set to resign.
From the Nashville Business Journal
Barry announced her resignation in a news conference Tuesday morning. Her announcement came shortly after she pleaded guilty to felony theft, stemming from her nearly two-year affair with Sgt. Rob Forrest, her former head of security. The affair had been the subject of several investigations, including by the TBI.
As part of a plea deal, Barry will reimburse the city $11,000, and serve three years of probation, according to multiple reports.
For now, Barry will be succeeded by Vice Mayor David Briley. A special election will be held in August to pick a successor to complete the remainder of Barry’s term, which ends in 2019.
All in all, I’m glad she’s gone, I’m sorry it played out this way for her, her family and for the city where I have spent my entire life. However, when you lay down with dogs, you’re going to get fleas. Sometimes a fleas bite can create problems beyond a little itching.
