The Lilium taxi would allow 5 people to fly 5 times faster than by car and be just as affordable.
Better yet, you won’t have to own one, you will simply pay per ride and call it with a push of a button.
The new personal flying machine was named after Otto Lilienthal, a German pioneer of aviation who became well known as the flying man. Lillienthal was the first person to make well-documented, repeated, successful flights with unpowered, bird-like gliders. He is known as the first successful aviator in history and was the inspiration for the Wright brothers, the first to fly a powered airplane.
The Lilium taxi will be a quiet, all-electric vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) device that will change travel forever. A large network of small, inexpensive landing pads will allow you to quickly enter an aircraft anytime and fly anywhere. No more commuter traffic jams, plus a magnificent view.
For example, suppose you and your family are planning on a European trip, leaving from JFK. From your cell phone you will select a landing pad near you and input your destination and your Lilium jet will be ready to go in a few minutes.
The ride to JFK, instead of taking an hour – and that’s if you don’t hit traffic – it will take 5 minutes. Instead of a taxi ride costing between $56 and $73 – it will eventually cost just $6.
Lilium jets require virtually zero infrastructure investments like roads or bridges. Landing pads can be developed by anyone. Lilium have zero operational environmental impact. They are 100% emission free.
Here’s the company’s deployment timeline. Their first full-scale flight test happened April 20th of this year. The first manned flight will come in 18-24 months. Six years later, full-time, 24-7 service will begin.
