Chris Hedges Interviews Standing Rock Protesters Video
On a special edition of On Contact, Chris Hedges travels to the Standing Rock encampment in North Dakota to listen to the frontline voices of those fighting to block the Dakota Access Pipeline.
This is not about water, it’s about sociopaths and their indifference to the natural world. Their destruction of nature is relentless and it will never stop. It is better to die defending what is pure and good than to live to watch it suffer day after day, year after year. It is rather ironic and in a sense comical to watch the police and military help these corporations poison their own drinking water. I wonder how these people reply to the questions asked by their wives and families concerning how the job went. “Hi honey! How did your day go? “Oh. I was doing my best to help poison the earth’s water supply.” ” Check the tap water dear. If there is oil in it, I was successful.” ” Are you and the kids proud of me?”
America always talks about Russia wrongly annexing Crimea, but at least they had a vote. The US just took this land from us, it’s unceded territory. There is no reason to close the camp, except to push us aside again, as they have done so often throughout history. Ask yourself, if it was safe, why did the governor move the pipeline away from Bismarck North Dakota, to a half mile away from the Standing Rock reservation?
The water protectors at Standing Rock are heroes. Native Americans have been marginalized throughout history and despote this they still fight on. They are setting a great example of how the rest of us don’t have to accept being pushed around by corporate interests. May God bless and continue to strengthen our bothers and sisters at Standing Rock. 💓💓💓 Great piece Chris!
