Two weeks ago the Fall 2016 Munk Debate took place in Toronto, Canada. The debate occurs every two years and is sponsored by the Aurea Foundation and its co-founders, Peter and Melanie Munk. The proposition to be debated this year was “Can Donald Trump Make America Great Again.”
In classical debating style, two debaters argue for the proposition, and two against. The live audience of 3000 votes before the 90 minute debate begins on the proposition, and then again after the debate ends. The team that changes the audience’s opinion the most wins the night.
The two debaters arguing for the proposition were Newt Gingrich and Laura Ingraham. The opposing team was Robert Reich, Secretary of Labor under Bill Clinton, and Jennifer Granholm, former Governor of Michigan.
